Transfer analysis: Summer window 2013-2014

Transfer analysis Premiership

A lot of changes happened at the end of the last season in Premiership and they have continued in the summer transfer window. New managers, interesting transfers and impressive promoted teams all signs for a great season are present.

We think that the most interesting transfer in Premiership until know is the signing of Jesus Navas for 20 mln euro by Man City. Without any doubts the most problematic zone of the Citizens formation was the right midfielder. In the last season James Milner played most of the time, but he is not at the needed standard in order to improve the performance enough. By signing Jesus Navas, City will have speedy and tricky winger who will add depth, assists and goals to their attack. We think that 27 years old wing will be a starter in Manuel Pellegrini’s squad. We also evaluate the possible impact of Navas very high.

The second position is for the move of German highly rated forward Andre Schurrle. The 22 year old ex-Leverkusen player was signed for 22 mln euros. He was Chelsea’s target for second consecutive season, but this time the Blues achieved in their mission to secure his signature. Schurrle will add some interesting options to Mourinho tactic and style and despite that there are not so many German players who succeeded in Permiership, we think that Andre will be a hit.

Tottenham Hotspurs did not need a lot quality to their midfield, but they have decided to add the rising Brazilian star Paulinho to their squad. The midfielder showed his abilities in the Confederation cup and all of the newspapers sent him to Inter Milan, but at the end he founded himself at London. Spurs paid 20 mln euros for the services of the 22 year old Paulinho and we think that he will adapt quickly to Villas Boas style. The carioca national will add a bit “latino” notes to Spurs midfield and according to us will worth his price.

Someone may find our next choice a little bit strange, but we chose Simon Mignolet as our next interesting transfer in Premiership. The Belgian keeper make move from Sunderland to Liverpool for the price of 10.5 mln euros. Big part of the Reds supporters complain about the form and the qualities of Pepe Reina. The Spaniard did not improve his form and we think that he will leave sooner rather than later. Mignolet is one of the top young keepers, being 25, which is not that much for his position. He beat the competition of Thibaut Courtois and became a starter in Belgian national team. We think that all of the scousers will be happy with his performance and he will help them to achieve better position this year.

Swansea had a lot of troubles with scoring goals last year. They had to use the Spanish sensation Michu as a striker and did not find any other player who can score enough. So Laudrup signed the top scorer of Eredivisie, the Ivorian striker Wilfried Bony. You can find our complete analysis here - Focus on: Wilfried Bony. We’ve already monitored his performance and we can admit that he will be a success. Bony has all the needed abilities to become a top scorer even in Premiership. He will have a great impact. Playing in front of Michu can be the trump for Swansea flying performance in England and Europe.

Transfer analysis Bundesliga

The most interesting transfers until now are made of course by the top clubs: Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen.

With no doubts we can evaluate as the most interesting transfer in the Bundesliga until now the signing of Mario Gotze by Bayern Munich from the vice-champions Borussia Dortmund. This transfer has some different interesting aspects. Bayern are signing the best player of their biggest rival in the latest years, they are getting the top German talent and they are paying the amazing 37 mln euro for a 21 years old player. Definitely the price is big and the status of Gotze at Bayern is far away from a sure starter, but we still evaluate him as the most interesting transfer in the Bundesliga in this transfer window until now.

The second most interesting transfer according to us is the replacement of Gotze at BVB, the Armenian star Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The ex-Shakhtar player will be one of the hits in the new season of the Bundesliga and he showed a bit of glances already, in Borussia’s friendlies. The only problem is that Henrikh left the field with an injury and will miss a 4 weeks of the summer training.  The 27.5 mln euro signing will be a starter if he is fit and will have a very big impact of the performance of his new team.

The third place in this impromptu list goes for the transfer of one of the top Barcelona talents – Thiago Alcantara. The new manager of Bayern Munich – Pep Guardiola, decided to sing his ex player for 20 mln euro. Alcantara shined brightly at the latest euro for U21, by scoring 3 goals at the final and helped his team to win the title. Thiago will have to fight for his place, as Bayern have one of the top players, but according to us he will be starter in the Guardiola’s selection, because the player and the manager had a good connection.

The final two of the interesting transfers in the German championship are the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at BVB and the transfer of Heung-Min Son from HSV to Bayer Leverkusen. The Gabonese star was transferred for 13 mln and will help his manager in searching of attacking variety. We think that he will be a top shot for that price and will become one of the stars of Dortmund’s selection. You can check our complete analysis of Aubameyang – Focus on: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Korean star made a very good season at HSV and attracted the attention of the top clubs. After selling Andre Schurrle the new coach of Leverkusen, Sami Hyypia, moved for Son as his replacement. The striker will bring some new possibilities and will be one of the leading players of Leverkusen.

Transfer analysis Ligue 1

All of the supporters may be confused and amazed, but after the invasion of the rich investors PSG and Monaco are the leading clubs in the summer transfer window. Both of the club made a lot of investments and now they had wonderful squads.

The most impressive move according to us is the signing of Colombian star Falcao for 60 mln euro by Monaco from Atletico Madrid. The striker proved his star status in all of the clubs where he played. He was the top scorer of his ex team and was one of the most interesting bites in the market. Monaco did not have such a star in their forward line and normally Falcao will have to lead their attack in the search of the title. The Colombian has all the needed abilities to achieve this and we think that he will be the top star in the next season.

The next impressive move made by a French team was the signing of Uruguayan star Edinson Cavani for 64.5 mln euro by PSG from the Italian Napoli. This is the top price paid for a player in the current transfer market. Monaco won the battle for his signature with Real Madrid, Chelsea and Man City. It will be an interesting to watch an attacking line including Cavani and Ibrahimovic. Without doubts, the b attle for the top scoring prize will be between Cavani, Ibra and Falcao and the fans will be very happy to watch it the whole season.

Despite being a newly promoted team, Monaco spread a lot in the market. They have splashed 45 mln euros for James Rodriguez and another 25 mln euro for Joao Moutinho, both signed from the Portugal giant Porto. The Colombian midfielder James is one of the rising stars and his move to Monaco was a little strange. The 22 year old player will be a starter and will be leading star for his new club. The Portugal midfielder Moutinho will have to become the director of the midfield. The 26 years old is one of the Portugal best players in the latest years and will have a great impact.

It was very hard to choose the last one in the list, but we go for the young left back Lucas Digne. The most talented French left back made a move from Lille to PSG for the value of 15 mln euros. Digne is 19 years old and will have to learn a lot before becoming a star, but he will have a good tutor in PSG – Maxwell. The French left full back will become a starter in the next year and will not have the impact that all of the other players in the list will have, but he has enough talent to be listed here.

Transfer analysis La Liga

The summer transfer window in La Liga until now was very interesting. Barcelona and Real Madrid showed muscles while Atletico Madrid, Valencia, Sevilla and Atletic Bilbao lost some of their top players.

Of course top of the top transfer is the signing of the Brazilian top star at the moment – Neymar. Barca paid 57 mln euros for his services. The 21 year old will have to deal with the pressure of the expectations and the pressure of playing alongside Messi, which will definitely make Neymer not the top leading player of the squad. This will be the issue which Tito Villanova should resolve.  Despite being in the shadow of Messi we think that Neymar will be a starter and will bring another dimension to Barcelona’s attack, but what about their defense?

Real Madrid changed their manager. Mourinho went in Chelsea and Real appointed Anceloti. After that they moved for two of the top talents in Spain, where you can find a lot of talented players in the latest years. Los Merengues splashed the impressive 30 mln euros for Malaga’s star Isco and another 30 mln euros for Real Sociedad’s one Illarramendi. The attacking midfielder Isco will have to fight with top flying Mesut Ozil and the new manager’s favourite Kaka, for a starting place, but he has the abilities to become a legend at Bernabeu.  Illarramendi is bought for a replacement of Xabi Alonso. Both of the players came through the academy of Real Sociedad and are now at Madrid. We think that Illa will not be a starter this season in the concurrency of Modric, Khedira and his tutor Alonso, but the price and the talent of the player earned him a place in the list.

One of the shocking transfers in the window was the move of David Villa from Barcelona to Atetico Madrid. Rojiblancos lost their top player – Falcao, but they have bought David Villa for the amazing price of only 5 mln euros. Villa showed that he didn’t lost his form, because of the injury, which kept him of the fields for 9 months, and made a good impression at the Confederation Cup. Definitely the Spanish scorer will be the leading star in Ateti and will have a great impact, if staying fit.

The latest transfer that we will mention from this league is the move of Benat from Betis to Atletic Bilbao. The Lions sold Javi Martinez last year and had some problems in the organization of the game so it was obvious that they need a signing in the midfield. They moved for Benat at the price of 8 mln euros and the new Spanish international will have to repay for the faith. The 26 year old, has a great vision, passing ability and composure and according to us he will become the director of Bilbao’s midfield.

Transfer analysis Seria A

The most active clubs (we are talking about interesting transfers) in the transfer window in Italy are the champions Juventus and Napoli.  The old lady reinforced their attacking power and will definitely be the top contender for the title next year. The Blues appointed Rafa Benitez as their new manager and he has already made some interesting transfers.

According to us, the most interesting transfer is the signing of Argentinean forward Carlos Tevez, by Juventus for the price of 9 mln euros. Every football fan is familiar with the problems that Tevez has with the discipline, but at every club he played the first season was at top level. He was leading star in Man United and Man City and at that price the 29 year old “beast” will become a great addition for the Italian giants.

Juve signed another top forward in order to fight the problem of scoring goals. They have signed Fernando Llorente with a free transfer, after the contract of the Spanish striker with Atletic Bilbao expired. The lion showed lot qualities in La liga and a lot of rumors were flying in the football world. After long discussions he decided to join the Italian champions. Llorente will offer another dimension to the attack and will help in the European and domestic march of Conte’s squad.

Benitez will have to change the style and the tactic of Napoli. According to us he will go for his favorite 4-2-3-1 and the most important elements, missing in the squad he found, were the wingers. He had already signed two very interesting players and we chose them in our list. Napoli paid 10 mln euros for the services of the Belgian international Dries Mertens and another 10 for the Spanish winger of Real Madrid Jose Callejon. Both of the players are very talented and at a wonderful age (26 years). We know that they are not one of the top players on their position, but we think that both of them will have incredible impact on the style and the results of Napoli.

A lot attention was attracted by the transfer of Mario Gomez to Fiorentina from Bayern Munich. The German international was one of the highly rated forwards and was showing good scoring form in his latest seasons at the European champions. We don’t think that he will have the expected effect, but we still think that until know he is one of the most interesting players that arrived in Italy. He will have to replace Stevan Jovetic, who will possibly move to Man City.
